GROUP  INSTRUCTION:

Group instruction is central to the goals of the LUCINI SCHOOL OF MUSIC. For musicians in all styles, playing in a small group gives students the opportunity to learn from each other as they learn from their instructor, and to experience a real performance setting.

CLASSES

Latin Jazz Combo - Instructor: Leonardo Lucini

The series of Latin Jazz Combo classes are designed to teach students Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms and styles combined with jazz in groups of 5-7 musicians of similar skill levels. Combos meet for and hour and fifteen minutes every week for a twelve week semester. The content of each class will vary from session to session, depending on the skills and interests of the students, so some students may choose to take the same level class more than once. Classes will begin on a rolling basis. Each class will conclude with a recital, at which students will receive a certificate of accomplishment and a CD/DVD of the group's performance.

Latin Jazz Combo - Level 1 (Beginning)

This course is designed for students with some basic knowledge of their instrument, but with no previous background in Latin Jazz or improvisation. Students will learn begining jazz theory, improvisation and music reading skills, and will survey the most used Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms. Repertoire for the course will include Latin Jazz and Jazz standards.

Latin Jazz Combo - Level 2 (Intermediate)

Students enrolled in this course should have a good understanding of their instruments, and should have some knowledge of jazz theory and experience with improvisation. The instructor will present intermediate to advanced jazz theory and improvisation techniques in conjunction with intermediate level latin jazz repertiore. The goal of this level is to gain detailed knowledge of the most common Afro-Cuban and Brazilian rhythms, including son clave. Students will also focus on 3/4 and 6/8 meters.

Latin Jazz Combo - Level 3 (Advanced)

To participate in this level, students should be proficient on their instruments and should already have a firm understanding of jazz theory and improvisation. The goal of this course is indepth study of selected Latin American rhythms and styles. Rhythms studied will include son and rhumba clave and maracatu.

Latin Jazz Combo - Level 4 (Advanced)

Students must be proficient on thier instruments and should have a firm understanding of jazz theory and improvisation. Level 4 instruction will focus on odd meter, faster tempos, and combining rhythms and styles learned in previous levels. The goal of the class is to teach students how to interact with percussion in the combo setting and how to draw on Latin rhythms in improvisation.

Chamber Ensembles - Elementary and Middle School Strings Program

Instructor: Leonardo Lucini

This series of courses is designed for elementary and middle school students who would like to improve thier skills, and prepare for school auditions, solo and ensemble festivals, and regional orchestra competitions. Groups will consist of 3-5 students of the same skill level, and will meet for weekly hour-long lessons over the course of a twelve week session. Each session will conclude with a recital at which the students will receive a certificate of accomplishment and a CD/DVD of thier performance. Classes begin on a rolling basis.

Chamber Ensembles - High School and Adult Strings Program

Instructor: Leonardo Lucini

Working in groups of 3-5 musicians, students will study playing technique and ensemble skills. Repertoire will reflect the skills and interests of the students.

Brazilian Ryhthm Workshop

Instructor: Leonardo Lucini

Brazilian Rhythm Workshops are designed for professional musicians who would like to learn about specific rhythms and styles from Brazil.

Private Instruction:

For students interested in gaining individualized attention, we also offer private instruction.

Fees:

$60/hour lesson

$50/45 minute lesson

$30/30 minute lesson

Appropriate lesson length decided by instructor and student

Instruction on both electric and upright bass in jazz, Latin American and classical styles is available. Lessons may include jazz theory, improvisation, technique, styles, and reading. Specialized audition preparation is available for students entering university music programs

POLICY AND PROCEDURES

Missed Classes:

Students are responsible for makeing sure they are available for all course meetings before registering for a course. Tuition will not be refunded for classes missed for personal reasons.

Cancellations:

Students are entitled to the full amount of classes agreed on at registration. If classes are cancelled due to inclement weather and/or holidays make-up dates will be scheduled, based on student and instructor availability.

Dropping a Class:

If students choose to drop a class, the tuition for the remaining classes will be refunded.
